Standchen [Serenade] was one of the most famous Lieder composed by Franz Schubert. Based on a poem by the German poet Ludwig Rellstab, this declaration of passionate love in the form of a serenade inspired a large number of transcriptions and adaptations. Among the most remarkable is that by Franz Liszt who, in Standchen, explores all the lyrical expressiveness of the piano.
