The nickname of this last concert, which Saint-Saëns wrote for his very own instrument, the piano, has a double meaning. On the one hand, the concert arose feverishly in the spring of 1896 in Egypt, namely in Luxor and Cairo. On the other hand, the composer used elements of Egyptian-oriental music. He even wrote later: "The second movement is a kind of Orient journey that even reaches the Far East in the episode in Fis. The passage in G is a Nubian love song that I heard from sailors on the Nile singing ".
