It was hearing the concert pianist Moscheles play at Carlsbad that inspired a young Robert Schumann to himself become a piano virtuoso. Influential and highly regarded Moscheles was friend, teacher, student or rival to the luminaries of his time, Mendelssohn, Rubenstein, Joachim, Clementi, Cramer, Meyerbeer and Weber, to name a few. These Op 70 studies form part of his vast body of work which includes 142 opus numbers.
