While the first volume of Liszt's Annees de pelerinage ('Pilgrim Years') was inspired primarily by the landscape of Switzerland, the creative impetus for the second volume was the art and literature of Italy.

Containing an extensive critical commentary and introductory notes, the edition (like its predecessor Premiere annee - Suisse, (EP72782)) also contains reproductions of the half-tint illustrations by Robert Kretschmer that appeared in the first edition.
