Max Bruch's "Kol Nidrei" belongs - in addition to the popular 1st Violin Concerto - to his most famous compositions. The wistful "Adagio after Hebrew melodies" was written in 1880 for the cellist Robert Hausmann. It processes two ancient Jewish chants, whose extraordinary beauty deeply moved the Protestant break. The tenor cello sound is the ideal medium for the voice of a Jewish cantor, and so "Kol Nidrei" still provides each cellist with a wonderful template for "singing" on the instrument. With this edition based on the first edition of 1881 "Kol Nidrei" appears for the first time in a scientifically founded Urtext edition, for which numerous letters and documents from the Max-Bruch-Archiv were used in addition to the musical sources.
