Beethoven - Piano Sonata No 22 F Major Op 54

Surrounded by the two famous sonatas Waldstein op. 53 and Appassionata op. 57, the F major Sonata op. 54 has always been a shadowy existence. Unfortunately! In this first large two-movement sonata, Beethoven experiments with strong character contrasts in the first movement and a virtuoso perpetuum-mobile duet in the second movement. The sonata is therefore a great challenge for pianists - in the interpretation as well as in dealing with the technical difficulties - and might therefore have been avoided. In one point, the sonata shares the fate of many of Beethoven's early works: an autograph is missing. Therefore, Murray Perahia and Norbert Gertsch in their new edition can only resort to an original edition as a source. As always with the new editions of the Beethoven Sonatas by Henle.
