THE universal reed :
This reed is designed to produce a quality of extremely pure sound due to:
a very thin reed tip (the area of reed with maximum vibration),
being balanced by a solid vertebral column (more cane in the area which climbs
gradually to the heel). These reeds are recognizable by a straight line to
delineate the limit of the area of bark.
Suitable for all saxophones and in a large choice of strengths:
The favorite reed of classic saxophonists worldwide since Marcel MULE, it has
always been (and is still) used with equal success by many players.
Two legendary examples:
Lee KONITZ:
I'm using [...] a Vandoren two reed* [...] I had been using a plastic medium reed
for the past 5 or 6 years but just recently switched to the cane. Right now, I'm
using a soft setup which gives me the flexibility I can't get in a harder setup.

*For alto; for the soprano sax, Lee Konitz uses a Vandoren #3 reed (both with V5
mouthpieces).
Stan GETZ:
I don't like a reedy sound. I have to work hard to get my sound because I use a
harder reed (med-hard Vandoren)*. People think I play effortlessly.
* #4
