Are you an old school rock and roll veteran looking for a tenor sax with unrivalled power and volume? Does your band play with beat up old Strats, amps that only work at volumes above 9, and a drum kit that's more gaffer tape than shell? Are you looking to bring some serious ATTITUDE to your gigs? Well look no further than this super-cool vintage Weltklang tenor sax, made in the late 70s/early 80s.

What country is this saxophone from? It no longer exists, but take her for a test drive and you'll agree, "Zagrevev min zlotnyk dev". Bearing a stamp next to the serial number of "Made in GDR", you know this horn means business. Much of the gold lacquer is wearing off, showing off the reddish raw brass, and adding to its vintage appeal. And look at that heavy duty non-factory low C key guard! If you're a fan of relic'd Strats and coffee-stained P Basses, this is the logical progression into sax land. But it's not just looks that give this horn rock and roll appeal.

Several of the pads are well past their best, and the mechanisms are reasonably noisy, and to be honest it's a little tough to play down low, but all that doesn't matter when you whack on a Jody Jazz Jet and a #2 reed - this thing HONKS. Comfortably one of the loudest horns our sax specialist Aidan has ever played, with seemingly endless grunt and power to the sound, with a deep German core. It doesn't do "pretty" very well at all, but neither do AC/DC and they seem to do OK. If you were interested in getting the horn fully done up you'll be outlaying north of $1500 on a horn that probably isn't worth much more than that, but sometimes these things are a labour of love. If you've ever sunk way too much money into a beaten up old Renault, you'll know what I mean.

This horn is certainly not ideal for school students, classical musicians, or anyone interested in subtlety. But if you're driving your Lamborghini to an Iron Maiden gig and you decide to check out some saxophones, give this one a try. Included is an old school wood shell hard case, to complete that vintage "chic". Pictures to come soon.
