A rare and exciting find that's sure to impress enthusiasts of vintage European-made saxes! This tenor sax is stamped "Rampone Quarna Novara", likely indication its origins in the early-mid 20th century. It offers a distinctly different personality to the French made saxes of the time, with a rich and authoritative voice reminiscent of American-made instruments, but with plenty of clarity and colour on offer too.

This saxophone has just undergone a major service from our workshop, including replacement of the majority of the pads, and plenty of keywork regulation and alignment work. Because of this, it is playing and sealing quite comfortably from top to bottom, with all keywork moving smoothly and fluidly. It is supplied with a 3 month adjustment warranty, to cover settling in of any of the new pads.

This saxophone offers a very different tonal concept to your "usual suspects", with a very flexible and colourful sound. It certainly reflects its Italian heritage, with a somewhat operatic quality, particularly at higher volume levels. The closest comparison I can think of would be later Buescher tenors, like the 400 and the TH&C, which also offer a flexible and direct sound. It is certainly in its element in the straight ahead jazz sphere, and would be well suited to any jazz player looking for a horn to bring colour and personality to small combo gigs. Pop in to our Moorabbin store to give it a toot! Pictures to come.
