Dr. Karl Sievers grew up in Louisville, KY. His primary teachers were Delbert Hoon and Leon Rapier, who were both members of the Louisville Orchestra. While still in high school, Sievers performed in Lausanne, Switzerland, in Carnegie Hall, and in the Kennedy Center. Sievers went to college at the School of Music at Indiana University where his primary teacher was William Adam. While at IU he completed his Bachelors and Masters degrees in trumpet performance and began work in the doctorate program. His formal education was completed at the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri in Kansas City when he was awarded his doctoral degree.


Professionally, Sievers has enjoyed a very busy career. He has played with the orchestras of Indianapolis, Indiana, Charlotte, North Carolina and Dayton, Ohio. He was principal trumpet in the Cincinnati Ballet and is presently principal trumpet with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and the University of Oklahoma Brass Quintet.

Teaching is Sievers’ passion. He currently enjoys the position of Professor of Trumpet at the School of Music at the University of Oklahoma. He is the proud father of three wonderful children as well as the loving husband of OKC Philharmonic violinist Dr. Beth Sievers.
