Dating back to around 1924, this gorgeous Martin alto is a testament to the quality of manufacture of the American factories in the 20s and 30s. Conns, Martins and Bueschers are widely believed to be the finest saxophones built in this time period. This particular horn was obviously stored in a cupboard or under a bed for a considerable number of years, as the satin silver finish with gold wash bell is in impeccable condition.

At some point in the last 10 years or so this instrument has undergone a major service, with the majority of the pads looking very clean and reasonably new. There are a couple of minor leaks affecting playability on the lowest few notes, however these could be pretty easily corrected with a service. The keywork is all moving very smoothly and comfortably, with a remarkably slick and comfortable action for a horn of this vintage.

We don't see too many horns of this age come through our shop in such remarkable cosmetic and mechanical condition. For the vintage horn enthusiast or collector, who is willing to put the time and effort into learning this instruments quirks and personality, it would prove a wonderful investment.

Included is a very old-school wood shell case (possibly the original, as it too is in very good condition). Contact one of our saxophone specialists at our Ormond store to organise a play test of this lovely old horn!
